Roles and Responsibilities of Candidates The researcher or doctoral candidate carries the primary responsibility for the project's daily execution and long-term success. Project Leadership: Candidates are responsible for the quality of the research, meeting funding commitments, and ensuring progress toward a finished thesis or report. Methodological Design: They must actively contribute to formulating research questions and selecting appropriate methodologies, often taking ownership of specific project components. Data Stewardship: Modern standards require candidates to produce and follow a Data Management Plan (DMP), ensuring all data is accurate, secure, and available for request. Professional Communication: Responsibilities include organizing progress meetings with supervisors, presenting findings at conferences, and leading the writing of publications. Regulatory Compliance: Candidates must secure necessary approvals (e.g., IRB or Ethics Committee) and adhere to institutional research integrity norms. Self-Development: They are expected to identify and acquire technical or transferable skills (e.g., statistical training, project management) necessary for the study.
