Research Intern in Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, from Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu (IIT Jammu), is accepting interns interested in the field of Chemistry, in the research area of Photochemistry .

The intern would be involved in the synthesis of organic and coordinating ligands by means of C-C or C-N bond-forming reactions, followed by transition metal (1st-3rd row) complexation to form coordinate compounds. Successful synthesis would follow structural characterization using 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopies, HRMS, XRD (SC or powder), XPS, SEM, and TEM studies; ground and excited state property determination by electrochemical and photophysical studies. Theoretical calculations at the DFT level need to be performed to support the experimental findings. The complexes would then be used for photocatalytic hydrogen production under blue, green, and red light illuminations, and the liberated hydrogen will be quantified by calculating TON, TOF, and apparent quantum yield of hydrogen production. Ultrafast spectroscopy would be needed to understand the detailed mechanistic study, e.g., charge transfer dynamics, stability of the excited state, etc. The intern would also be involved in analysis and timely writing and manuscripting the data produced.
