This research position addresses the dual challenges of Wear and Corrosion through the development of novel protective coatings. The project focuses on bridging the gap between physical metallurgical properties and predictive analytics. By developing an AI-driven framework, the researcher will work to accurately predict friction and wear behavior, moving material selection from trial-and-error to a precise, data-driven science. This role is ideal for candidates who want to apply machine learning to solve "hard" engineering problems in the aerospace, automotive, or manufacturing sectors. Roles & Responsibilities: 1. Design and evaluate novel coatings aimed at mitigating material degradation in aggressive environments. 2. Develop and implement computational models using Python and MATLAB to predict tribological outcomes (friction and wear) based on material parameters. 3. Clean and structure experimental data to train machine learning algorithms for precise life-cycle predictions of engineered surfaces. 4. Identify and troubleshoot challenging practical problems related to surface failure, corrosion pathways, and mechanical wear. 5. Apply advanced mathematical principles to simulate contact mechanics and thin-film behavior.
