About Internship

Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacy, from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai (SRMIST Chennai), is accepting interns interested in the field of Chemistry, in the research area of Analytical Chemistry.

This internship focuses on developing expertise in HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) and HPTLC (High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography) for pharmaceutical applications, with a strong emphasis on Analytical Quality by Design (AQbD) principles. For HPLC, interns will gain hands-on training in handling critical components such as the pump, injector, column, detector, and data system. Proper handling techniques, including using degassed and filtered solvents, priming the pump before analysis, maintaining consistent column temperature and flow rate, and performing system suitability tests, will be emphasized to ensure reliable and reproducible results. Interns will also practice detector calibration and adherence to validated analytical methods to achieve accuracy and compliance. For HPTLC, interns will learn precise sample application using automated applicators on silica gel plates, ensuring clean handling and chamber saturation with mobile phase vapors for uniform development. Focus will be placed on the validation of Rf values and densitometric scanning to maintain analytical integrity. Both HPLC and HPTLC methods will be studied within the framework of ICH Q2(R1) guidelines, which define parameters such as accuracy, precision, specificity, linearity, range, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), robustness, and system suitability. Interns will understand how these principles are applied for method development, validation, and audit readiness. The internship will also integrate AQbD approaches to design scientifically sound and regulatory-compliant analytical methods, strengthening skills in bioanalytical method development, quality assurance, and global regulatory compliance. This training ensures participants are prepared for real-world challenges in pharmaceutical research, education, and industry practice.
