Senior Scientist, Department of Controlled Source Seismics, from National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), is accepting interns interested in the field of Earth Planetary Sciences, in the research area of Geophysics.

Cracks exert a significant influence on elastic properties due to their high compliance, and fluids also play a crucial role in this regard. The idea is to make use of variations in material properties that influence seismic velocity, enabling the utilization of a velocity model to deduce those properties and fluid flow distribution of crustal rocks. Relating seismic data to fluid processes at depth is not straightforward. Rock physics modeling will be performed to estimate subsurface crack parameters and fluid state. This will help quantify deep crustal lithologies, mineral cement, and water to better understand continental geology. The intern will work closely with the group to investigate the relationship between cracks/fluids and crustal dynamics and their influence on rock elastic properties and geophysical properties within deep crustal rocks. Some numerical experiments can also be attempted by the team to understand the sensitivity of the model parameters of interest.
