Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics,Statistics, from Sri Balaji University, Pune, is accepting interns interested in the field of Mathematics, in the research area of Optimisation theory.
This internship offers an in-depth exploration of Optimization Theory, focusing on its practical applications across science, engineering, economics, and data-driven decision-making. Participants will engage with foundational and advanced concepts such as linear programming, Assignment, Transportation, duality theory, and combinatorial optimization. Through guided mentorship and hands-on projects, interns will learn how to formulate, analyze, and solve optimization problems relevant to real-world scenarios. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and computational implementation, introducing key algorithms such as the Simplex Method, Gradient Descent, Newton’s Method, KKT Conditions, and Metaheuristic Techniques like Genetic Algorithms and Simulated Annealing. Students will gain experience using optimization libraries and tools in software environments such as Python, MATLAB, or R. A key objective of this internship is to bridge mathematical theory with applications in fields such as machine learning, operations research, logistics, energy systems, and finance. Interns will work on case studies and mini-projects to model and solve problems like resource allocation, production scheduling, portfolio optimization, and transportation networks. By the end of the internship, students will have developed a solid foundation in optimization theory, improved their problem-solving skills, and acquired practical experience that prepares them for advanced study or careers in analytics, research, and optimization-intensive industries. This internship is ideal for undergraduates or early graduate students in mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or economics with a strong interest in applied mathematics and quantitative reasoning.
