About Internship

Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, from Seshadri Rao Gudlavalleru Engineering College, is accepting interns interested in the field of Civil Engineering, in the research area of Construction Technology And Management.

This internship offers an in-depth research opportunity focused on the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Digital Twin technologies for assessing and optimizing the lifecycle carbon emissions of buildings. The project aims to quantify and reduce both embodied and operational carbon emissions through data-driven modeling and simulation. Interns will begin by developing detailed BIM models using Autodesk Revit, including architectural, structural, and MEP components with precise material specifications. Material quantities will be extracted via Revit Schedules and analyzed using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools such as One Click LCA, Tally (Revit plugin), or EC3, applying Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to assess embodied carbon. For operational carbon, energy simulations will be conducted using Autodesk Insight or Green Building Studio, factoring in HVAC systems, lighting, occupancy, and climate conditions. The resulting carbon data will be integrated into a Digital Twin environment using platforms like Azure Digital Twins or Siemens Digital Twin, enabling real-time tracking and lifecycle optimization. The research process includes literature review, BIM modeling, carbon accounting, Digital Twin integration, and sustainability optimization. Expected Outcomes: 1. A comprehensive carbon assessment report 2. Design optimization recommendations 3. A working Digital Twin prototype
