About Internship

Assistant Professor from Government College of Engineering, India, is accepting interns interested in the field of Metallurgical Engineering, in the research area of Physical Mettalurgy.

This internship focuses on the physical metallurgy and mechanical behavior of High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steels, which are widely used in automotive, structural, and industrial applications due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and good formability. The study of strain hardening parameters (n and K values) is essential for understanding material performance during deformation and forming processes. During the internship, students will: 1. Assist in the selection of suitable HSLA steel grades based on application and material properties. 2. Prepare tensile test specimens following standard metallurgical and mechanical testing procedures. 3. Conduct tensile testing using an Instron universal testing machine equipped with a strain gauge. 4. Analyze stress–strain data to calculate strain hardening exponent (n) and strength coefficient (K values). 5. Interpret experimental results and relate mechanical behavior to underlying microstructural features. 6. Support documentation and reporting of experimental findings. By the end of the internship, students will gain: 1. Hands-on experience in mechanical testing and characterization of metallic materials. 2. Practical understanding of tensile testing, strain measurement, and data analysis techniques. 3. Exposure to physical metallurgy concepts related to deformation behavior of HSLA steels. 4. Skills in interpreting mechanical properties relevant to materials design and manufacturing. 5. Research experience valuable for higher studies or careers in metallurgical and materials engineering.
