Associate Professor from Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (IIT Ropar), is accepting interns interested in the field of Mechanical Engineering, in the research area of Machining, Machine-tools and Metrology.
This internship focuses on real-time tool condition monitoring in machining processes using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning techniques. The project involves modeling and simulation of machining systems, acquisition of experimental data, and validation of predictive monitoring approaches. Interns will work at the intersection of manufacturing engineering and data-driven analytics to improve process reliability, tool life prediction, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities 1. Assisting in modeling and simulation of machining and tool monitoring systems 2. Supporting experimental setup, sensor-based data acquisition, and real-time monitoring 3. Preprocessing and analyzing collected data for AI/ML model development 4. Assisting in implementation and validation of predictive models for tool condition monitoring 5. Conducting literature reviews on smart manufacturing and intelligent machining systems 6. Documenting experimental procedures, results, and technical findings Learning Outcomes 1. Gain practical understanding of machining processes and tool condition monitoring 2. Develop exposure to AI/ML applications in manufacturing and smart production systems 3. Learn data acquisition, signal processing, and experimental validation techniques 4. Strengthen skills in modeling, simulation, and performance evaluation 5. Improve research documentation and technical communication abilities
