Assistant Professor, Department of Production and Industrial Engineering , from Punjab Engineering College ( Demmed to be University) Chandigarh , is accepting interns interested in the field of Mechanical Engineering, in the research area of Composite Materials.
The evolving demands of the automotive industry emphasize the need for lightweight, high-strength, and durable materials to enhance vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Aluminium and magnesium, owing to their low density and excellent specific strength, have emerged as promising base materials for advanced metal matrix composites (MMCs). This study focuses on the development and characterization of hybrid metal matrix composites (HMMCs) reinforced with a combination of ceramic and solid lubricating particles to improve mechanical, tribological, and thermal properties. Hybrid reinforcement strategies aim to balance hardness, wear resistance, and ductility, making these composites suitable for critical automotive components such as brake rotors, pistons, cylinder liners, and suspension systems. The incorporation of reinforcements like SiC, B4C, graphite, or MoS? into the Al/Mg matrices is explored using advanced fabrication techniques such as stir casting, squeeze casting, and powder metallurgy. The resulting composites are subjected to detailed microstructural, mechanical, and tribological analyses to assess their performance.
